The rain backup checklist
For every function, answer three questions: where does it move to, how long does the move take, and who makes the call?
- Mandap: covered pandal on standby with the same decor plan
- Sangeet and reception: an indoor hall sized for the full guest list, not 60% of it
- Guest movement: covered walkways or golf carts between rooms, dining and the venue
- Power: full-load backup, tested, including for the DJ and lighting rigs
- Flooring: raised or matted ground on lawns so heels and lehengas survive
- Photography: two indoor locations scouted in advance for portraits
- Decor: waterproofed drapes and covered floral installations; avoid paper elements
Timing decisions
Set a rain-call time for each function — typically three hours before — and give the authority to one person, usually the planner. Weddings go wrong when four people are debating the sky at 6 pm.
Guest logistics
On-site accommodation matters more in monsoon than any other season. Guests who have to drive between a hotel and a venue in heavy rain will arrive late and leave early. Look for a venue with enough rooms to house the core party.
